How it works

Like real radio, every station is on air all the time, by the clock, so you tune in partway through. The news is written from today's headlines and read by a synthetic voice, not a real announcer's. Everything else is a real recording, most of it off-air tapes kept at the Internet Archive (archive.org). The set is a 3D model you can turn round: drag the knobs, slide along the dial, or pick a station from the list.

Questions

Is it free?

Yes. No sign-up and no advertising, apart from the vintage ads that were on air at the time.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes. Tap anywhere to let it sound. On Android it keeps playing in the background, with controls in the notification; on an iPhone, keep the page open.

Is this the official All India Radio (Akashvani)?

No. Bharat Radio is an independent hobby project, not connected with All India Radio, Prasar Bharati, SLBC, the BBC or Voice of America.
